Winds top 100mph as Storm Bella gives way to ice, snow

LONDON: Winds reached more than 100mph overnight as Storm Bella brought rain and blowy conditions across the UK.
Two threat to life flood warnings remain in place in Northamptonshire after days of wintry weather across the Christmas break, with a cold snap with icy and wintry conditions still to come.
The top wind speed was recorded at the Needles on the Isle of Wight where it reached 106mph overnight on Saturday.
Aberdaron in north-west Wales experienced gusts of 83mph, and locations on the south coast of England, including Dorset, got close to 80mph.

Phoenix, Arizona - Elbert Philip Shabi, 69, of Indian Wells, Arizona, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael T. Liburdi to twenty years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Shabi previously pleaded guilty to kidnapping.
Shabi admitted that in 2016 or 2017, he seized the victim as she fled from him on foot. Shabi threatened the victim and held her overnight against her will. The kidnapping happened on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation, where Shabi is a tribal member.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety conducted the investigation in this case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dimitra Sampson, Amy Chang, and Jillian Besancon, District of Arizona, Phoenix, handled the prosecution.

The storm that hit northwest California on Dec. 25-26 delivered a healthy wallop of rain to the region with some areas seeing up to 4 inches of precipitation.
While most areas received between half an inch to an inch and a half, Honeydew received almost 4 inches of rain. Eureka (at Woodley Island) saw 0.71 inches, Garberville measured in at 1.43 inches and Orick had 2.06 inches.
